Each year, the month of April is set aside as National Poetry Month, a time to celebrate poets and their craft. It was organized and introduced by the Academy of American Poets as a way to increase awareness and appreciation of poetry in the United States. In honor of National Poetry Month, Pelion Branch Library hosts its annual Poetry Contest.
Sponsored by Friends of Pelion Branch Library
Contestants must live in Lexington County. We have categories for students in elementary, middle and high school as well as adults. We encourage homeschool students to enter, too.
Applications are available at Pelion Branch Library, all Pelion school media centers and online. Download and print the application.
On Saturday, May 2 at 10:30 AM, the Pelion Branch Library is hosting a Poetry Party and will be awarding prizes for its annual Poetry Contest. The first place winner, honorable mention recipient and best overall winner (in each of the four categories) will all be announced at the event. Winners don’t have to be present.
Attendees will have the opportunity to hear poets of all ages read their work while also enjoying light refreshments. It promises to be a morning of inspiring words and uplifting company. Don’t miss out on this exciting event and your chance to win. We look forward to seeing you there.
