The South Carolina Room — located on the ground floor at Lexington Main Library — houses the core of our local history and genealogy collection. The collection includes non-circulating reference books, maps, local obituary indexes, microfilmed newspapers, census records, historical papers, family histories, military records and photographs.
The mission of the South Carolina Room is to collect, preserve and provide access to materials that focus on the history and genealogy of Lexington County and the surrounding counties that made up the old Orangeburgh District as well as the state of South Carolina as a whole.
The Reference staff at Lexington Main Library are available to provide assistance with genealogical and local historical research.
