July 31 is National Mutt Day — it’s a day to spoil our mixed breeds and to raise awareness for those who need a fur-ever home. Back in the 1800s, the word “mutt” was considered to be a demeaning term that means “stupid person.” Let’s just call them mixed breeds, because dogs are extremely smart animals.
