Barrier islands run parallel to the Atlantic and are so named because they shield the mainland (as well as the inland Sea Islands) from damage caused by sea storms. South Carolina has 35 barrier islands, more than any other state except Florida. In this program, we will be introduced to nine of the most famous and popular ones along the South Carolina coast. (ages 18+)
