Event Details

The Outer Banks of North Carolina have a reputation for being the Graveyard of the Atlantic. There are estimates approaching 3,000 shipwrecks along the islands, going back to the first English settlements in America. These include ships sunk by German U-Boats, an exploding steamship in 1838, and a freighter on its maiden voyage from Philadelphia to Havana that ran aground on the shores of Cape Lookout. Learn about these shipwrecks from Lt. Colonel John Miles, USMC, Retired. (ages 18+)
